“In truth, Yoga doesn’t take time; it gives time.”
We all know how difficult it is to find time for self-care. Life, work, and other responsibilities pile up, and time is short. There's also the issue of motivation.
Because we are physical, mental, and spiritual creatures, a daily yoga practice encourages the growth of all three. Regular yoga practice can help you become healthier, calmer, and happier.
Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” ― The Bhagavad Gita
The road to recovery?
To better grasp how consistency works and how to influence the behavioural pattern for our benefit.
.. Every habit, no matter its complexity, is malleable.”
Consistency comes down to habits, and understanding how habits work allows for transformation.
1. Develop a positive mindset toward Yoga:
- Stop considering yoga as an afterthought. Just reminding yourself about the benefits helps inspire!
- Increases balance and flexibility
- Increases vitality & energy
- Diminishes stress, sharpens memory, concentration and mental clarity
- Boosts immune system
- Aids in illness and injury recovery
- Reduces & prevents—ailments like back pain, arthritis, insomnia, etc.
- Stabilises emotional challenges: Depression, Anxiety, etc
- Enhances mood and well-being, as well as productivity and creativity
- Encourages personal development
2. Embrace the journey:
Make your practice work for you rather than against you. The more it resonates with you, the more probable you will prioritise it. Find YOUR yoga practice - the ideal time, style, teacher, and environment.
3. Accept your strength and weakness:
Our bodies are unique. Stop putting too much pressure on yourself.
Yoga is about practice rather than perfection. Find stances that feel natural to you. One that will inspire you to practise your yoga or go to the studio every day. For outstanding results, block out the negativity and create consistency.
4. Learn the fundamentals – breathing/alignment/safety
Ask yourself if you genuinely understand the foundations of appropriate alignment and safety, whether you are a novice or have been practising for a long time.
Determine your right level, ask questions, and keep track of how your body responds to progressive increases in practice depth.
Be truthful to yourself. Pay attention to your body.
5. Stick with a particular yoga sequence:
Consistency comes through repetition. Make a list of the yoga poses. Schedule a certain stance for seven days (a week) before moving on to the next. You won't have to think about your next position for a week.
Begin with meditative stances like Padmasana. Padmasana will give you seven days to work on improved awareness and mental serenity. You'll be more focused.
6. Stay focused:
Make sure you stay entirely engaged during each practice, regardless of its duration. Turn off your phone, shut the door, and make sure no one bothers you during that time.
7. Document your Yoga Progress:
Record or photograph your progress. You can do this once a week, twice a week, or whenever you choose.
Make a list of what you've accomplished, what you haven't, and what you plan to do.
Start with more challenging yoga poses. You'll be filled with enthusiasm when you see how far you've come.
8. Apply the Incentive Theory of Motivation to develop consistency:
Use the incentive theory of motivation to guide your yoga practice.
Reward yourself in addition to documenting your yoga progress. Treat yourself to a spa date when you go a month without missing a yoga session.
9. Find an Accountability Yoga Friend:
In yoga, a friend with shared yoga visions will keep you accountable. Discuss your yoga experiences and the goals with each other
Drive to yoga sessions together and watch online tutorials together. Always remind each other why you started yoga practice in the first place and what you aspire to achieve.
10. Make yoga a priority:
If you constantly put your health and wellness on the back burner in favour of everything else on your "to-do" list, you will suffer.
Explain to your family why this practice is essential to you. To manage one's health, family support and encouragement are crucial. If you have young children, make arrangements for someone in your family to watch them for this brief period.
11. Rest and modify as necessary
When you work the body constantly, you must arrange regular rest intervals or adapt the yoga practice routines to allow significant muscle groups and joints to recuperate.
Consider how you may organise your yoga lessons to target critical structures while providing adequate downtime.
12. Stay inspired!
Read up on new seminars and other events that will introduce you to new and exciting topics in your yoga practice.
A yoga challenge might help you become more consistent in your practice. A month-long yoga challenge is ideal for establishing that habit; any shorter and the habit will not be established. Whether you take a set number of sessions per month or participate in a Studio Challenge, staying consistent for a month can help you stay consistent for a long time.
“The yoga pose you avoid the most you need the most.”
Final Thoughts
The benefits of yoga are holistic, covering every aspect of your body. Your yoga program's consistency is crucial. You gain increased body awareness and notice changing dynamics in your body due to this consistency. Time is on your side when you include full intention and harmony into your yoga practice.
